Cancer Early Diagnosis Coordinator
Salary: £26,620 pro rata + pension + Macmillan professional development opportunities
Hours: 37.5 hours
Location: Hybrid across Nottingham (GP practices, SHUK Office, community venues, home)
Contract: 12month fixed term (potential to become permanent subject to funding)
About the Role
Self Help UK, in partnership with NHS Nottingham and Nottinghamshire ICB and the East Midlands Cancer Alliance, is launching an innovative programme to improve early cancer diagnosis and reduce stark health inequalities across Nottingham.
As a Cancer Early Diagnosis Coordinator, you will support this mission by delivering personalised outreach, raising awareness of cancer signs and symptoms, and helping individuals overcome barriers to screening—particularly within underserved and marginalised communities. This role directly contributes to the NHS Long-Term Plan ambition that 75% of cancers should be diagnosed at Stage 1 or 2 by 2028.
Key Responsibilities
- Identify individuals who have not participated in cancer screening, focusing on CORE20PLUS5 priority groups.
- Provide personalised navigation and practical support to improve screening uptake.
- Plan and deliver culturally competent community workshops, outreach events and awareness sessions.
- Build strong working relationships with GP practices, PCNs, voluntary sector partners and the NUH Bowel Screening Hub.
- Support volunteer development and coordinate volunteer-led activities.
- Maintain accurate data and contribute to reports, case studies and evaluation.
- Uphold safeguarding, GDPR and health and safety policies.

Trustee Board Recruitment
We are looking for two types of roles: Chair of Trustees and at least one other Trustee (ideally with Financial experience, but we are also open to other types of experience).
Trustee positions are unremunerated, but reasonable expenses will be reimbursed.
Trustees meetings are usually held every six weeks, plus there is an AGM, away days, and any sub-committee meetings that trustees may be involved in. Most meetings will remain virtual but there will from time to time be a need to attend key meetings and events in Nottingham. The time commitment is approximately 4hours per month, but there may be occasions when more time is required for a short period.
Chair of Trustees
You will be chairing the Board of Trustees, ensuring that we have minimum representation required for decisions to be made, keeping the board aligned in decision-making, ensuring all minutes are recorded and that all decisions by trustees are made with the appropriate context provided.
This is a great opportunity to develop further governance skills and experience, and help steer an important charity in the right direction.
Who are we looking for?
• Previous chairing experience
• Relevant experience in any of the following financial management, HR, charities, fundraising, social prescribing, NHS, local authorities, marketing, business development, governance, strategy or legal
• A willingness to devote the necessary time and effort
• Good, independent judgement
• The ability to challenge and ask questions
• An understanding and acceptance of the legal duties, responsibilities and liabilities of trusteeship
• A commitment to Nolan’s seven principles of public life: selflessness, integrity, objectivity, accountability, openness, honesty, and leadership
Trustee:
